Saddle Up: A camping adventure

On the trail

This past weekend, we had the wonderful opportunity to embark on a horse campout that left us buzzing with excitement! As we wrapped up our worship on Thursday, the atmosphere was electric. With our camping gear packed and spirits high, we set off for Sequoyah State Park, where we would call home for the next few days.

Upon arrival, we pitched our tents, laughter and chatter filling the air as we set up our little camp. Once everyone was settled in, we hopped into our vehicles for the hour-long drive to Ozark Academy, where the horses awaited us. The ride was filled with anticipation, as we swapped stories about past horse experiences and brainstormed fun games for the evenings ahead.

That evening, we kicked off our adventure with a refreshing late ride. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the landscape as we trotted along the trails, the rhythmic sound of hooves providing a soothing soundtrack. After returning to camp, we gathered for dinner, sharing our first impressions of the weekend. On the bus ride back, we had a worship session that felt deeply connecting, reminding us of the purpose of our time together.

As the weekend unfolded, each moment became a cherished memory. Here’s what Noemi had to say about her experience:

"There’s something truly magical about spending time with horses; they have a way of calming the soul and washing away stress. This year, I had the pleasure of riding a beautiful horse named Apollo. He was such a gentle spirit, always eager for a little affection. There’s nothing quite like that bond—you can feel all your worries melt away with each ride."

Noemi highlighted one of her favorite parts: "One of the highlights was helping Uncle Leo with settling the horses. On Saturday night, he took us for an afternoon ride in the woods and the scenery was great."

Getting ready for Kayaking

Sunday brought a new adventure as we headed out kayaking down a river. For many of us, it was it was our first time kayaking on a stream, and the thrill was contagious. We stopped to swim whenever we took a break, splashing around and enjoying the warm sun—it was the perfect way to cool off and have fun with friends.

Overall, this horse campout was a beautiful blend of adventure, relaxation, and connection. We returned home with our hearts full and our minds buzzing with memories. I can’t wait for our next campout—here’s to more magical experiences ahead!
