You might well ask where you could become a pilot while completing a high school education, and getting ready for missions.
At Oklahoma Academy, our goal is to produce workers for the harvest. Jesus said that the harvest is great. But there are not enough workers.
That was true then. But as we look at the world, we can see that it is even more so now! We aim to help with that shortage.
We believe that an excellent well-rounded education is the basis for that preparation. Sprinkle skills like auto-mechanics, online and offline marketing, literature evangelism, farm management, and construction into the mix and you have young people ready, willing, and most of all able to fulfill the gospel commission.
Many of our students come here for those extras. One of the most popular paths is for students to apply to become part of the mission track, especially in the flight training program. Those of us working in other areas are doing our best to make our own areas of mission track equally as enticing.
Mission track is a two year program in which the last two years are spent in a specialized vocational area. Those who are in that program spend their vocational training time in gaining proficiency to serve as missionaries in one of several areas. Those who apply for that extra training pledge to spend part or all of the year following graduation in a mission program.
We currently have students and recent graduates working in the following areas:
Mission Aviation
Mission Media
Mission Music
Mission Construction
Mission Agriculture
We are working on expanding that list.
One of the vocational areas that is not only challenging but immensely rewarding is literature evangelism, commonly called canvassing on campus. These students talk to people at their front door, in stores, or even parking lots. They work on getting Christian literature into the hands of as many people as possible. This is not only a good way to improve self confidence, but teaches valuable skills in any area of service.
Many of the stories that come from canvassing are written in our new devotional, 180 Days With God. If you would like to read some of them, we would invite you to download a free sampling of 10 of the devotionals here.
This devotional was written almost exclusively by our students. A few were written by staff. It is designed to provide a short personal time with God while getting ready for a school day. There is one devotional for every day of the school year.
Oklahoma Academy is not for everyone. But if you are considering attending here, we would invite you to download the student handbook. After reading it, you might have questions. We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing many of you on campus.
